During the Napoleonic Wars, the British military upgraded and improved their firearms. The newer models introduced practical refinements. The New Land pistol, for example, was equipped with a swivel ramrod which eliminated the possibility of dropping the ramrod during reloading on horseback. In addition the flat butt with ring attached allowed the attachment of a lanyard to the grip. From the early 1800’s this improved Indian originating design rapidly replaced the earlier pistol patterns.
