Robert de Vaugondy was the foremost mapmaker in France during the 18th century, a time when explorers and navigators pushed back known frontiers. De Vaugondy presented this globe of exploration, marking the routes of conte,porary explorers, to the French King Louis XV. This earned him the title of Cartographer to the Royal Court.
