This short barreled weapon was immensely popular for close quarters brawling. It was equally effective in clearing the deck of a ship and warding off highwaymen. Easy to load because of its wide mouth, the .69 calibre blunderbuss was a favorite for sailors, pirates and coachmen. It was in use throughout the 18th century and into the first part of the 19th. The 18 inch brass barreled varieties have a special beauty.
