Our Superb Stockings are made for us by one of the finest historical hosiers in the world. Our stockings are made to fit both men and women, and are knit to stretch considerably – these soft wool ones will accommodate a generous calf. The large size will stretch to accommodate a man’s size 14 or so foot; the smaller size is meant for those with feet size men’s 9 (ladies’ 11) or smaller. If, however, you find that they are too large or too big in the foot, a quick trip (because they’re wool, make it a VERY quick trip!) through a hot dryer after washing will shrink them down a bit for you. The rib on these makes them stay up extremely well, and in addition give a flattering vertical stripe effect on the leg. For best results and longest life on your stockings, we recommend that all of our stockings be hung to dry rather than put through the dryer, and we suggest hand washing for these wool ones. These medium weight stockings are perfect for everyday wear with period or modern shoes or boots — or for anytime you want to stay warm.
Please note that they while they are thinner than our 100% Wool Stockings (SKU# 25-13), they are still are quite thick, so not a good choice with very tightly fitting footwear. They are over the knee length, with just a touch of spandex in the rib to help them stay up. Available in natural white only.
