Spencer’s Superb Stockings are made for us by one of the finest historical hosiers in the world. Our stockings are made to fit both men and women, and are knit to stretch considerably – these clocked silk ones will accommodate a relatively generous calf, and they will stretch to accommodate a man’s size 14 or so foot. If, however, you find that they are too large or too big in the foot, a quick trip through a hot dryer after washing will shrink them down a bit for you. For best results and longest life on your stockings, we recommend that all of our stockings be hung to dry rather than put through the dryer, and we suggest hand washing for these silk ones. They are perfect for everyday wear with period or modern shoes – and there is nothing like the look and feel of pure silk! They are over the knee length, with just a touch of spandex in the rib to help them stay up.

The term “Clocked” refers to the woven-in design on both sides of the ankle on both stockings. It is a lovely feature, and is certainly attractive for any lady or gentleman who wishes to flash an ankle!

A note to dark-haired gentlemen: the white stockings are semi-opaque, so you may wish to order two pairs (to be worn one on top of the other) to obscure heavy dark hair. Another option is to wear a pair of our natural cream plain silk stockings (SKU# 25-09), or white or natural cream 100% cotton stockings (SKU# 25-01) next to your leg and the clocked silk on top. Both the charcoal and the black silk are fully opaque, so they may be a better choice if you wish to wear only a single layer.

Due to variations in dye lots and screen resolutions, colours may not be exactly as you see on your screen. Approximately 69cm (27″) in length (toe to top).
