This short barreled (16 inches) weapon was immensely popular for close quarters brawling. It was equally effective in clearing the deck of a ship and warding off highwaymen. Easy to load because of its wide mouth, the .69 calibre blunderbuss was a favorite for sailors, pirates and coachmen. It was in use throughout the 18th century and into the first part of the 19th.
